Hello Kitty Fishcakes Bento

TinySprite gets two fish and rice cakes (made with brown rice, cod, quinoa, green onion, cilantro, salt and pepper). I might add an egg to bind these better next time. I made balls, then flattened and pan-fried them to a crispy finish. No bread crumbs or wheat of any kind. You might also include tartar sauce, or plain yogurt mixed with sweet pickle relish, which is what we sometimes use. I topped hers with a corn tortilla Hello Kitty with nori and carrot face and a radish bow. To the side she has carrots, strawberries and blackberries.

  1. love it! Sheri, do you cut your carrots with a paring knife? Or is it a cutter?

    1. I use a paring knife. It's kind of tricky to do it that way, but it's quicker. I'll have to post a tutorial since you're not the first to ask about them. Once you get the hang of it, it's not hard. Thanks!

  3. Hi!!
I really like you blog and your bento, but i ask you if you can write everytime the recipes (very briefly) of what you do for the bento.
I have no idea to make my bento, and even if your bento are amazing, having the recipes I could try to do them at home from my own..

    So, bye bye

    1. I have to be better about writing up the recipes I'm using, since someone usually is interested in trying it. It's also a good way for me to remember as well. Thanks for your interest and the suggestion :)

    2. thanks a lot!!!

In Italy bento are not famous, so only people love asian culture, in particular the japanese one, say what they are and what they do, but the really problem is that is very very difficult to find the ingredients, so, i see that you use a lot f 'normal food' that is simple to find in every kitchen culture..

      Bye Bye

    3. Thanks for letting me know this; yes I suppose I use mainly "regular" food because that's what my kids like and it's easier for me to prepare. You can adapt bento to whatever kind of food you like, and I bet Italian food would work well too :D

  4. I love the idea of fishcakes in bento! I must try it, even if it's crumbly it doesn't matter. It's protein and carb in one...neat!

    1. So true; you can eat it with a fork as my girl does here, or put into a bun just as easily. Fish cakes are great for bento, I agree! Thank you!
